How Is Tallow Made?
The process of making tallow starts with large chunks of beef fat. For our high-quality tallow products, we use leaf fat, which is found around the kidneys and is known for its superior quality. Here's how we make our tallow:
Wet Rendering: The fat is cut into small chunks and placed in a slow cooker with water and salt. This slow process typically lasts 8 to 16 hours, during which the water helps prevent burning and the salt draws out impurities.
Straining: After the fat has melted, it is strained through cheesecloth and is left to cool. Once the fat solidifies, impurities settle at the bottom, which are scraped away.
Wet Rendering: This process can be repeated up to 8 times, but we only perform it twice to preserve the nutrients while ensuring the fat is nearly odorless.
Final Steps: After the second round of rendering, we place the tallow in the slow cooker for 1-3 more hours to remove any remaining moisture, ensuring that the tallow remains shelf-safe.
Once the process is complete, the tallow is free of impurities and odor, ready to be used in a variety of skincare products, including soaps, balms, and lotions.

How Long Does Tallow Last?
When stored in a cool, dry place, tallow can last up to one year at room temperature. If you store tallow in a humid environment (such as a bathroom), it is recommended to use the product within 6 months. For longer shelf life, storing tallow in the freezer can extend its use for 5 years or more.
As for tallow-based cold-process soaps, they typically last 1 to 3 years, depending on the storage conditions.
